Moodle allows you to drag and drop images straight from your computer into a text box that you are editing. For example, you can add an image to a section of your course by editing the section and dragging an image into the text box on the edit section page:

Dragging and dropping an image straight into a text box allows you to upload a picture to display in the text.

An important aspect of adding images to your course page is making sure the image is sized correctly. To size your image, first make sure it is highlighted in the text editor, then click on the “Image” button in the text edit toolbar.

Resize an image by clicking on the image icon in the text edit toolbar

Resize an image by clicking on the image icon in the text edit toolbar.

Once you click it, there will be a dialog box with the option to manually size your image, or “auto-size” your image. Tick the auto-size option and pixel dimensions will be automatically entered.

Adding alt-text and resizing an image

You can add alt-text in the same place that you resize images.

Image Accessibility

Users with visual impairments may not be able to see your image, so it is important to add a description of your image in the field labeled “Describe this image for someone who can’t see it”. The description should be a single brief string of words that effectively communicates or describes what your image is about. Screen reader software will read this text to visually impaired users.

This is what the course section now looks like:
